Change to the list of Statements of Principles, April 2022
On 22 April 2022 changes were made to:
- the list of Australian Statements of Principles that apply in New Zealand
- the list of accepted late-onset conditions.
Statements of Principles
The Statements of Principles (SOPs) are a tool to determine if an injury, illness or death is service-related.

The Veterans' Support Amendment Regulations (No 2) 2022 brought into force 24 replacement Statements of Principles and 2 new Statements of Principles.
These Statements of Principles cover:
- aortic stenosis
- chronic solvent-induced neurocognitive disorder
- colorectal adenoma
- gender dysphoria (new SOPs)
- gingivitis
- goitre
- Graves disease
- Hashimoto thyroiditis
- hyperthyroidism and thyrotoxicosis
- hypothyroidism
- malignant neoplasm of the colon and rectum
- motor neurone disease
- narcolepsy.
Minor amendment Statements of Principles
Two minor amendment Statements of Principles have been adopted by Ministerial decision and come into force on 22 April.
The two SOPs are for:
- suicide and attempted suicide.

Accepted late-onset conditions
The list of accepted late-onset conditions at Schedule 2A of the regulations has been updated. This changes the names of four conditions to align with name changes that have occurred through the adoption of some of the SOPs listed above.

Veterans' Support Amendment Regulations (No 2) 2022(external link)
Accepted late-onset conditions are conditions that could be accepted as being linked to specific exposure or events occurring during qualifying operational service.
They are applied to Scheme Two veterans only. Their purpose is to ensure that families of veterans whose death was the result of a late-onset malignancy or other physical or mental disorder receive entitlements under the Veterans' Support Act 2014.
