Our key pages are now available in te reo Māori

As part of our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori (Māori world view), 15 pages are now available in te reo Māori.

These pages are the most viewed and most useful. For example, Check Your Eligibility, Qualifying Service Explained, and the Veteran's Pension.

For family and whānau, the Surviving Spouse or Partner Pension and Plaque and Headstone Funding pages are now in te reo.

We plan to add more te reo Māori pages in the future.

Why are these translations important?

We are committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and this is one step toward doing that.

Māori have played a significant role in the New Zealand Defence Force. Historically, our forces have been 20% Māori. However, the proportion of Māori accessing entitlements from Veterans’ Affairs is much less.

Our aim is to be open and supportive of Māori and to help them contact Veterans’ Affairs to access the support and entitlements that they deserve.
