Veterans' Medical Research Trust Fund

From time to time, the Veterans’ Health Advisory Panel call for proposals for research on New Zealand Veterans. This research is funded from the interest available through the Veterans' Medical Research Trust Fund.

The purpose of the Veterans’ Medical Research Trust Fund is to improve the health status of NZ veterans by funding research relevant to veterans’ health.

Types of research that can be funded

Research can be funded if it investigates a field of medicine that may benefit NZ veterans. When the Panel releases a call for research proposals, it will identify the type of research it is interested in funding.

Guiding Principles for Investment

The Panel and the Minister for Veterans have established eight Guiding Principles for Investment to assist it to make robust and transparent investment decisions.

Seeking funding

How to apply for funding

Once a call is made for applications, the process has two stages:

  1. Project inquiry. The Panel will advise when it is seeking applications from NZ-based researchers. There is no funding round open at present.
  2. Project Proposal. If the Panel agrees your project should be pursued, it will invite you to submit a full project proposal.

Decisions on these are made by the Panel.

How much is awarded

Levels of funding will be advised when the Panel releases a call for research proposals. The use of co-funding for costly or complex projects is encouraged.
