Child Care—Social Rehabilitation
This recognises that you may need to pay for childcare while you undergo treatment or rehabilitation for a service-related condition.
You may be able to get this if:
- you have Qualifying Service,
- your condition is related to your Qualifying Service, and
- your child needs care while you undergo treatment, rehabilitation or your accepted service-related condition prevents you from caring for your child.
You may also be able to get this support for a non-service-related condition if:
- it stops you from working full time, and
- you get Weekly Income Compensation.
Assessment of needs
You must also be assessed as needing Child Care. The assessment will be based on your needs and situation.
This will provide services to look after your children. These can be things like after-school care, kindergartens and home childcare.
Child Care will stop if:
- ACC can provide support — but we'll give you support if they provide you less than what we can
- the individual has turned 14 years of age
The Child Care support will continue if they:
- are older than 14, and
- have a physical condition or learning disability that needs support.
You'll be assessed for this under Social Rehabilitation while applying for impairment.
You may still apply for it if you don't have Social Rehabilitation. You'll need to:
- complete the Apply for Treatment and Rehabilitation application form
- send the application form and any supporting information to us.
After you apply we'll:
- contact you to confirm we've received your application
- start the decision-making process
- keep you informed on the status of your application.
If we need more information, we'll get in touch with you.
